Watched the movie 127 Hours and really enjoyed it, the cinematography was amazing, but I was also thoroughly impressed with the soundtrack… these were some of the gems I loved from it…
So finally back from the Cannes Film Festival and what an amazing experience - I cant even begin to describe how surreal it all was. Feels a bit strange to be back in Cape town and not wake up to the sounds of the paparazzi, the smells of the awesome french loaves and the sites of the beautiful, rich and famous. Days and nights melded into one as the sun only set at around 9pm each night, each day packed with celeb sightings, movie premieres, parties and massaging weary feet after walking far too many kilometers in heels. The French are such a sophisticated nation, with the soothing sounds of their language making it very hard to resist falling in love with the city. True to form the French seem very unfazed by the cancer warnings on cigarette boxes as they all seem to chain smoke and drink coffee all day long. The ultimate accessory for the French woman was her miniature dog, which she takes with her everywhere on the end of a bejeweled leash, making shopping in Zara a tricky experience as you need to have your wits about you so not to squash said accessory. Highlights of the trip had to include having the likes of; Jane Fonda (who looks amazing for her age, I seriously need to get her workout video), Woody Allen, Diane Kruger all staying on my floor in the hotel. Getting to see Sarah Jessica Parker up close and personal, and yes she does have a long face, but I still think she is gorgeous. Walking the red carpet at the Dragon premiere, having my picture snapped by all sorts of paparazzi, it was so surreal. Eating pastries and drinking coffee at the sidewalk cafe with the GVW team, just soaking up the sights and sounds of the French. Having Woody Allen be a daily sighting as we shared an elevator or walked the stairs together. Then a real highlight for me had to be the SA team who went over to Cannes for glaceau vitaminwater - Marina Caldow who was the SA vitaminwater representative was awesome, going out of her way to make sure we all had a super amazing time. Eric and Derick from vitaminwater in Atlanta, were amazing, one would never expect such “big cheeses” to be quite as cool as they were. The Top Billing guys, Janez, Wimpie & Buddy were awesome, “looking” after us lasses and always willing to lend a muscle to tug a slightly overweight shopping bag Then there was Melinda Shaw from Heat magazine who continually impressed me with her stamina, that girl can party with the best of them and her and Thulani aka Toolz did not miss a beat. Speaking of Toolz he had to be the most animated of the bunch, and a definite must travel companion ensuring there was never a dull moment! Jen-Su impressed me with what a hard worker she was, forever doing something and not just kicking back like most of us did. Then there was Lindie from Cosmopolitan who was such a sweetheart, waking me up each morning ensuring I actually ate breakfast and shopped till I dropped. All in all, it was a once in a lifetime experience that I cannot really do justice - I am so grateful to have been chosen to go, and have fingers crossed for a 2012 reunion, the bug has officially bitten… hopefully my pictures will do the trip a little more justice.
So yet another day in Cannes and I’m starting to feel so French with my “Bonjour’s” and “Merci’s” sounding oh so authentic The sun sets at crazy hours here so dinner usually only starts around 9 and people only really party after 1am here, my body is so confused.. However with a view like this I’ll survive. So last night was the CK/vitaminwater party and we got to feel very “celeb-like” walking a mini red carpet for the paps aka paparazzi… Then as one does, rubbed shoulders with the likes of Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman & Owen Wilson, who is so super down to earth. We get to see Ashwaria Rai every day and she is as insanely beautiful in person as one would imagine. Apparently Jolie/Pitt are in town, so fingers crossed for a spotting. My favourite celeb so far though is Woody Allen… No bodyguards, he just strolls around quite happily mixing with the “commoners” Other than that on the local celeb front we are having a whale of a time with the crew down here, with alter-egos and nicknames abounding But that’s a whole other blog post… Going to head down to the shopping district, yet again and get the inside scoop on the 2011 summer trends, so watch this space for that… If you do ever happen to find yourself in Cannes, do yourself a favor and head down to Jean Luc Pele… Their macaroons are so good I started a relationship with my nutella and creme brûlée flavored ones… Seriously!!
So day 2 of Cannes and it’s been absolutely surreal!! We arrived a little weary after our transit through Zurich, but were met by a line of paparazzi outside of our hotel and the realization that we had finally arrived at the Cannes Film Festival. It’s been a non-stop sensory overload, the high-street fashion, bodyguards at every corner, paparazzi as common as parking guards are in South Africa, it’s been such an amazing experience so far. Had lunch yesterday at the vitaminwater z-plage and had the welcome surprise of seeing Lady Gaga sound checking 5m away from us, insane- she has crazy hair! Then after a decadent dinner last night I had non other than Woody Allen stroll right past me. Then again at lunch today JessieJ had her soundcheck, literally a few feet away from us, so instead of some generic restaurant music we had a world renowned pop star serenading us. This has been such a whirlwind time so far & I’m literally blogging this moments before I don my frock for a press conference with Uma Thurman and then head off to the Calvin Klein/vitaminwater cocktail party. I seriously feel so blessed… Will do a decent post when I’m not dashing, shopping, lunching and add all the awesome pics…
